PBM Dauntless Game 1979
Back in 1979-80 I was in a multi-player PBM Dauntless game that was game-mastered by Jim McAmis
of Stone Mountain Georgia. I saved all the movement reports from the first mission and used the Mac
Graphics program Canvas Draw to replay it. IIRC we sent our starting positions and GT1 movement plots
blind. I should add that the pilots were rolled on the Crew Skill Level Table from the Expansion Kit
and there were some 20+ kill aces on both sides.
Here are the Game Turn one starting positions. It seems to me that the IJN players weren't very
coordinated at the start compared to the USMC players. The reason being is that shortly after
receiving the first mailing about this game the American players received a letter from a guy in
Kansas basically taking command. While some of the American players were taken aback by this and
questioned one of his orders, (IIRC we could start as high as 22,000 feet but he wanted us to start
just under 20,000 feet) but he did start us in the same general area of the map. It's obvious that
no one on the IJN side did the same.
